Campus report
A 2 am start for SAJC’s 40 Hyderabad Marathon volunteers
Event: 30 August 2026Published:

Forty students of Sri Amogha Junior College volunteered at the Hyderabad Marathon on 30 August 2026, taking on responsibilities ranging from medal distribution and cheering to water stations and support for first-aid arrangements.
The day began well before sunrise. Students were up at 2 am and travelled to Gachibowli Stadium, where they coordinated with the Hyderabad Runners organising team. The early start was part of reporting for a shared responsibility at a major city event.
The volunteers worked within an operation serving thousands of runners, including full- and half-marathon participants. Their different roles brought them into contact with the practical work that allows a public sporting event to run: providing water, supporting finish-area arrangements, recognising runners’ efforts and helping at assigned support points.
For students, this offered a close view of how a large event is organised. An individual task has to fit into a wider plan, and the work depends on people reaching their posts, understanding their responsibilities and coordinating with others. The scale was different from a campus activity, while drawing on the same need to listen, cooperate and follow through.
The college also sees the experience as an opportunity to understand service. The volunteers’ work centred on other people’s needs and efforts. Its value lay in contributing to the event and in the satisfaction that can come from doing a useful task for someone else, without expecting a personal reward.
That is a meaningful part of SAJC’s approach to student development. Volunteering gives students a setting in which responsibility has a practical purpose beyond their own academic progress. The Marathon brought together an early start, unfamiliar demands, teamwork and the chance to contribute to the wider Hyderabad community.
