Charminar heritage walk brings Hyderabad’s history closer to SAJC students
Event: 12 July 2026Published: Updated: 7 November 2026

About 30 students of Sri Amogha Junior College took part in a Charminar heritage walk on 12 July 2026, organised in collaboration with The Hyderabad History Project. The visit brought students into the historic heart of Hyderabad to explore the city beyond their regular classroom setting.
The walk formed part of SAJC’s programme of educational visits. A familiar landmark can be a starting point for a different kind of attention: looking closely at a place, considering the people and periods that shaped it, and connecting what survives today with the city’s wider history.
The Hyderabad History Project specialises in Hyderabad’s history and heritage. Its approach combines guided walks with historical research and archival material, providing context for places that residents may otherwise pass without examining closely. The collaboration brought that local-history perspective into the students’ educational experience.
For SAJC, the purpose of a heritage visit is to give students a closer relationship with the city in which they live and study. History becomes more accessible when there is a real setting in which to consider it. A walk also creates room for observation and questions that differ from those of a written lesson.
The experience connects with the college’s wider emphasis on student development. Alongside subject knowledge, such visits offer opportunities to listen, notice details, engage with people beyond college and consider the responsibility of preserving shared places.
The Charminar walk was one of several experiences through which SAJC students explored Hyderabad during 2026, alongside library visits, workshops, industry exposure and volunteering. Each brings a different part of the world into a student’s education.
